Whetts bags the opener
Lee Whetter in his last spell with St Blazey

ST BLAZEY began their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win away at Millbridge.

The Green and Blacks had a squad of 14 players on the day, including new signing Lee Whetter, who is set to join from St Dennis.

Whetter opened the scoring after 12 minutes when he scored after the Millbridge goalkeeper flapped at a corner.

Blazey had several chances to further extend their lead with numerous chances coming and going, particularly for Harry Eaton and George Russell.

They did finally get a second just after the hour when Lyle Johnson converted a penalty after Ashley Piggott had been upended in the box.

Johnson then completed a fine afternoon scoring again after Eliot Rendle had been tripped in the penalty area.

Sticker kicked off their pre-season on Monday night with a 6-0 win over local rivals Roche.

Star striker Jack Bowyer weighed in with four goals as the Sticky turned in a dominant display.

Frankie McAvoy got the other two goals for the Division One West champions as they prepare for life in the Peninsula Premier Division.

They did have a number of trialists for the game including St Dennis midfielder Aaron ‘Doodles’ Beresford and former Sticker goalkeeper Rob Rosevear who has moved back to the area having been working in Abu Dhabi for the last couple of years.

New signing Tyler Cheshire, from Godolphin, also made his debut.

Last night St Austell were due to be in action with their first pre-season game away at Penryn Athletic.
