‘People should be given free or cheaper spaces’

A ST AUSTELL councillor is calling on Cornwall Council to stop “penalising” disabled drivers by charging them thousands of pounds to have a parking bay outside their home.

Disabled motorists in the county are currently charged up to £3,800 by the local authority to have a parking space painted on the road outside their house despite it being done for free in other parts of the country.

Cornwall councillor for Mount Charles, Richard Pears, is urging the council to fall in line with other authorities around the country and charge a notional fee or nothing at all...
