Battle to save our iconic railway bridge fails
Structure to move to Wales

A FIVE-year battle to stop the county’s only footbridge of its kind from being delisted and removed from St Austell railway station has failed.

The iconic local landmark will now be dismantled and taken to a museum in North Wales after the Secretary of State approved an application by Network Rail to de-list the iron lattice GWR footbridge, which dates back to 1882.

The Government has also de-listed the entire railway station - on grounds that its character has changed beyond recognition in recent years...
