Oscar boost for cancer charity

A LOCAL 13-year-old has managed to raise more than £2,200 for for a cancer charity after taking part in a one mile swim.
Earlier this year, Oscar Hedges from St. Columb took part in the Padstow to Rock Swim in aid of Marie Curie.

This was Oscar’s first time at the event and was accompanied by his dad Roger. Oscar completed the one mile swim in just 29 minutes and even over took his dad along the way.
Each year Seasalt have kindly donated vouchers for the top fundraisers of the event and this year Oscar won the under 16-year-age group having raised a ‘staggering’ £2,284.86.  This amount of fundraising will support 114 hours of local Marie Curie Nursing Care.

The Padstow Swim Committee were joined by Holly Ranson, the Seasalt Padstow shop manager, and Harreitte Waterton-Gullick, the assistant manager, to present Oscar with his vouchers, a certificate and a box of chocolates.

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading charity for people with any terminal illness. The charity helps people living with a terminal illness and their families make the most of the time they have together by delivering expert hands-on care, emotional support, research and guidance.
The 2018 swim will take place on Friday 27 July, and the entry forms can now be downloaded on the Marie Curie website.
